Thursday February 9, 2017

Kwantlen Polytech University, Surrey Campus is closed today. All events have been cancelled due to weather conditions.
Unfortunately the Interfaith Event tonight is cancelled, which means my talk about the Spiritual Journey installation is cancelled, possibly it will be rescheduled  in a week or two but the installation will be de-installed tomorrow morning, Friday Feb 10.
If a new date becomes available I will post it here.

SPIRITUAL JOURNEY installation

INTERFAITH HARMONY WEEK
at Kwantlen Polytech University-
February 1-7th
Interfaith Festival at KPU- February 7-9
From February 7-9, 2017, in concert with the United Nations World Interfaith and Harmony Week, KPU’s Multi-Faith Centre will host its 3rd Annual World Interfaith Harmony Week Festival at both its Richmond, BC and Surrey, BC campuses.

My Spiritual Journey's fifth installation, created in 2002 for the Surrey Art Gallery, will be at the Kwantlen Surrey Campus from Jan 31-Feb 9 for public viewing in the Aboriginal Gathering Space in the Main Building. This quiet space offers a place of contemplation. The artwork consists of nine suspended scrolls circling a labyrinth. The painted scrolls embody the plurality of world faiths while revealing common values. A contemporary interpretation of a three channel ancient labyrinth leads your footsteps to the centre of a personal journey.

For the multitude of faiths not represented I have included one that is:

Dedicated to all those whether known or unknown to the world who have held aloft the light amidst the darkness of ignorance.
(These words from a Sufi International Universal Worship Service)

On the evening of Feb 9 there will be a celebratory closing event at the Kwantlen Grass Roots Cafe including story, poetry, music and I will talk about the artwork.

Thank you to the Kwantlen staff and the Interfaith team.

Medicine Wheel

The Medicine Wheel represents earth based wisdom originating over 9000 years ago. It is an ancient symbol which embodies the circle of life. The circle mirrors the organization of the universe: the four seasons, the four elements, the four symbolic races, the four aspects of self, and the four seasons of our life. It is a sacred place for the community, providing food for the spirit.
